18 October 2024
With wellness becoming increasingly prominent, the world of fitness can be a maze to navigate.
Thankfully, Calcot & Spa makes reaching your goals a little easier. We sat down with their Fitness Manager, Luke Daniels to elevate your health and lifestyle. Join us as Luke shares the inspirational story about his relationship with fitness as well as useful tips on becoming more active.
What does fitness mean to you?
I always wanted to be someone who could run a marathon one day and lift heavy weights the next. So to me, fitness means feeling strong, healthy, and capable in my body. It’s about having the stamina to enjoy life both physically and mentally, in and out of the gym. It’s not just about working out but creating a healthy balanced lifestyle and improving the longevity of life.
How did you get into fitness?
I’ve always been active in sports for as long as I can remember and have never been one to sit still. However, in my final year of secondary school, I suffered an illness that caused me to miss the entire year, and I was told I would never be able to participate in sports or fitness again. I even had to relearn how to walk. Being ambitious and driven, this news only fuelled my determination to build a career in fitness, and that passion has been the driver of everything I’ve accomplished and continues to push me forward today.
What is your favourite fitness class at the Grain Store at Calcot & Spa?
The Grain Store offers such an outstanding fitness class timetable, with a current offering of over 80 classes per week - we simply have a class for everyone! My favourite is our Group Cycle class. I love road biking as a hobby outside of work so it’s a natural endorphin rush for me on a bike. The high energy and accomplished feeling that a Group Cycle class gives you when you finish is second to none, and you certainly sweat buckets! Whether you are new to spin or an experienced rider, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go.
What are the key benefits of working with a personal trainer?
Working with a personal trainer offers numerous benefits, including personalised workout plans tailored to your goals and fitness level, ensuring you perform exercises with proper form to prevent injury, and maximising your time in the gym. Personal trainers provide you with motivation and accountability, helping you stay committed to reaching your goals faster. We introduce variety to keep workouts engaging and offer nutritional guidance to support your fitness journey. Having a well-rounded approach makes the best personal trainers.
What is your favourite way to refuel after a workout?
I always make sure to aim to get 30-40 grams of complete protein after a workout, along with some healthy fats and carbohydrates to replenish my body and energy stores. My go to is a chicken, halloumi, and avocado burrito! Members and guests can visit our Grain Store café after their workout and refuel on some of our delicious offerings.
