Capital Gains – Family Breaks in London
7 nights -
From The View from The Shard to Hamleys basement gaming zone, London is a family playground waiting to be explored
About the break
It’s oh-so British not to shout about what we do well, but when it comes to London, there’s no dispute about this capital city is one of the best in the world for families. It’s a dream for parent’s keen to expand their children’s knowledge and curiosity from the arts to the natural world. London’s museums, many of which are free, are a great place to start. The Natural History Museum and the Science Museum are all literally within steps of one another, and afterwards they can let off steam in Hyde Park where you hire an electric pedalo on the Serpentine. Or head to the East End to the Young V&A…. Exploring London by the Underground is an experience in itself and if your little ones are obsessed by buses and trains, the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden will be a huge hit. If arts are more your thing, London’s theatres and art galleries all have programmes for youngsters from Shakespeare’s Globe to Tate Modern, both right on the River Thames. Take your pick from a selection of family-friendly musicals. Whether it is Wicked, The Lion King or Matilda, these child-friendly musicals provide magic for the whole family. Let your princes and princesses get a glimpse into royal life with a tour around Buckingham Palace or the Tower of London where the crown jewels are on display. For an epic view over the capital The View from the Shard gives you the highest vista, or there are many more hidden places to see the view such as the old church tower of the Garden Museum next door to Lambeth Palace. And if you dare, head down Regents Street to Hamleys, one of the oldest and most famous toy shops in the world with seven storeys to explore.
Stay at The Athenaeum Hotel & Residences
Check into The Athenaeum on Picadilly in the heart of London’s West End, and young kids are greeted with Arthur Athenaeum (a cuddly companion) to act as their guide in the big city, while a dedicated children’s concierge is on hand to give you all the advice necessary for a perfect city break for all ages. Families can stay in the Athenaeum’s apartments, giving them all the privacy needed to make long lasting memories. Each evening children under 12 can dine for free and, before bed, milk and cookies will get them dreaming of their next family adventure.

Children are made welcome with special amenities including a Sleepy Sheep and Toniebox. In the evening, there is no need to venture into town for dinner, The Hari has a delicious children’s menu, ensuring they are well-fuelled for tomorrow’s adventures.
